Decalogue parchment by Jekuthiel Sofer 1768

Decalogue parchment by Jekuthiel Sofer 1768

Not everyone agrees as to when the very beginning actually started.

Some will only recognize human rights as the triumph of 18th Century revolutions. Others will name the Magna Carta as the first text that spells out rights for individual human beings.

Opinions about this very much depend on the background and nationality of the writer.

Human rights have been defined as the relationship between human beings and power. In my view therefore, the history of human rights started a very long time ago, at the time one God pronounced Commandments, in the number of ten, by which his people were to abide.
